What is PCS?

PCS (Personal Communications Service) is a wireless digital phone service for mobile users and a component of the IMT-2000 (3G) standard. Sprint was the first company in the United States to build and operate a PCS network. A number of cell transmitting antennas blankets an area for more coverage and less blind spots. As a user moves around, the user's phone signal is picked up by the nearest antenna and then forwarded to a base station that connects to the wired network. PCS operates in the1850-1990MHz bands in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
